Certificates of Non-Membership for Classes of Read-Once Functions

چکیده
A certificate of non-membership for a Boolean function f with respect to a class C, f 6∈ C, is a set S of input strings such that the values of f on strings from S are inconsistent with any function h ∈ C. We study certificates of non-membership with respect to several classes of read-once functions, generated by their bases. For the basis {&,∨,¬}, we determine the optimal certificate size for every function outside the class and deduce that 6 strings always suffice. For the same basis augmented with a function x1 . . . xs ∨ x1 . . . xs, we show that there exist n-variable functions requiring Ω(ns−1) strings in a certificate as n → ∞. For s = 2, we show that this bound is tight by constructing certificates of size O(n) for all functions outside the class.

Learning Boolean Read-Once Formulas over Generalized Bases
A read-once formula is one in which each variable appears on at most a single input. Angluin, Hellerstein, and Karpinski give a polynomial time algorithm that uses membership and equivalence queries to identify exactly read-once boolean formulas over the basis fAND;OR;NOTg AHK93]. The goal of this work is to consider natural generalizations of these gates, in order to develop exact identiicatio...
متن کاملA new method for fuzzification of nested dummy variables by fuzzy clustering membership functions and its application in financial economy
In this study, the aim is to propose a new method for fuzzification of nested dummy variables. The fuzzification idea of dummy variables has been acquired from non-linear part of regime switching models in econometrics. In these models, the concept of transfer functions is like the notion of fuzzy membership functions, but no principle or linguistic sentence have been used for inputs. Consequen...
متن کاملLinear-time certifying algorithms for recognizing split graphs and related graph classes∗
We give the first linear-time certifying algorithms to recognize split graphs, threshold graphs, bipartite chain graphs, cobipartite chain graphs and trivially perfect graphs, with sublinear certificates for negative output. In case of membership in a given graph class our algorithms provide as certificate a structure for the input graph that characterizes the class, and in case of non-membersh...
متن کاملSmall-Space Analogues of Valiant's Classes
In the uniform circuit model of computation, the width of a boolean circuit exactly characterises the “space” complexity of the computed function. Looking for a similar relationship in Valiant’s algebraic model of computation, we propose width of an arithmetic circuit as a possible measure of space. We introduce the class VL as an algebraic variant of deterministic log-space L. In the uniform s...
